The Sewing Hub is a warm welcoming community space and sewing room that is fully accessible within 'Spectrum' - the Centre for Independent Living, Unity 12, in Southampton. Just off The Avenue.
Suzie Carley, a local fashion designer/maker founded this unique bookable studio incubator space to enable similar creatives to move out of the spare room at home. There is access to Juki industrial sewing machines, cutting table and sewing/crafting classes. "We particularly welcome and encourage women to access training, share knowledge and expertise in a supportive environment. It's like a micro manufacturing space, home-from-home, and allows me to focus on developing my ethical sleepwear collection for women who experience the symptoms of disability, chronic illness and/or menopause. Get in touch if any of the above interests you!"
We now host a weekly 'knit and natter' group after our 'Knit an Easter Bunny' event which has inspired most of our attendees to start knitting again and/or perfect their skills! Bring your UFOs (Un-Finished Objects)with you on a Thursday! Add items to your wardrobe which you have fashioned yourself! For those who want to make a start, we can supply beech needles, yarn and pattern! Get in touch.
We offer the following services:
