Alterations

We help customers with alterations from hemming, to re-sizing and if possible we can let your garments out if there is a generous seam allowance (likely with vintage clothing). We can adjust necklines, insert pockets (everyone loves pockets!), alter waistbands on jeans, and adjust the cuffs and fit of jackets and coats etc. We take on commissions (design and make) and have in the past created bed canopies through to wedding dresses.

We offer a consultation with changing room facilities and a full length mirror where you can try your clothes on in privacy and our experienced seamstress will offer guidance on fitting and price.
Where possible, we can offer express service or recommend you to someone who can help. Please note, there will be an extra charge outside of normal studio hours.
We are an ethical employer and our staff are paid a fair wage according to their skills.

Our Alteration Process

Please note we work by appointment only and you can now book alterations/fitting online here! You can also see our pricing guidelines here which may answer some questions you have. Whether you call or complete our online enquiry form, the first thing we need to know is your desired completion date. We can then let you know whether we can help you. If it’s urgent and we don’t have too many other projects on the go we may be able to help. If not we will recommend another freelance seamstress who is known to us.

Step-by-Step Guide

We would prefer you to book online please.
If you don’t want to or cannot book online, then please call or fill in our enquiry form. If we agree to go ahead then we can arrange a mutually convenient appointment.
There is now a small charge of £5 for a half hour consultation where you will try on your garment/or discuss your commission.
At your appointment, an estimate/price will be given and the work explained. Please note it is highly unlikely we can give you a price over the phone without seeing your garment.
The project and completion date will be agreed.
Your contact details will be taken if we don’t already have them.
Second fitting date agreed if necessary.
If you have a large quantity of garments that need altering, we may ask for a deposit.
When the project is complete, we will arrange a mutually convenient appointment date/time for you to collect and try on your garment to check you are happy.
Payment needs to be made before you can take your garment away.
We take card payments, cheque, bank transfer or cash.

Book an Appointment Online

Usually half an hour is long enough to prepare a garment for alterations. However, it may take up to an hour to pin multiple hems for evening, bridesmaid or bridal gowns, and or multiple garments. Therefore, if you are unsure, please book an hour.

It is with regret our fitting service now attracts a charge of £5 per half hour, this is to help us manage our time and avoid the occasional ‘no shows’.
