We help customers with alterations from hemming, to re-sizing and if possible we can let your garments out if there is a generous seam allowance (likely with vintage clothing).  We can adjust necklines, insert pockets (everyone loves pockets!), alter waistbands on jeans, and adjust the cuffs and fit of jackets and coats etc.  We take on commissions (design and make) and have in the past created bed canopies through to wedding dresses.  Please see our Price Guidelines for Alterations for more information or make contact here.

Suzie did an amazing job altering a bridesmaid dress for me at the last minute. Very welcoming and friendly. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for alteration or anything else!

Sally Alterations

Suzie made some fairly complicated alterations to my wedding dress, and did a great job for a good price. She was also lovely to chat to! Although I couldn’t have my final fitting because of lockdown, all the alterations were done and I was able to collect my dress – which was just right when I finally got to wear it for my big day..

Suzie made alterations to my partners dress and they were perfect. She also altered the sleeves on my suit jacket and adjusted my trousers. Incredibly professional job for all of the work.

Our Alteration Process

Whether you call or complete our online enquiry form, the first thing we are likely to need to know is what your desired completion date is.  We can then let you know whether we can help you.  If it’s urgent and we don’t have too many other projects on the go we may be able to help.  If not we will recommend another freelance seamstress who is known to us.  We work by appointment only.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Contact is made, either online, email, telephone, message – it’s up to you.
  2. If we can agree on a desired completion date then we arrange a mutually convenient appointment for your free consultation.
  3. Free half hour consultation where you will try on your garment/or discuss your commission.
  4. An estimate/price will be given and the work explained.
  5. The project and completion date will be agreed.
  6. Your contact details will be taken if we don’t already have them.
  7. Second fitting date agreed if necessary.
  8. If you have a large quantity of garments that need altering, we will take a deposit.
  9. When the project is complete, we will arrange a mutually convenient appointment date/time for you to collect and try on your garment to check you are happy.
  10. Payment needs to be made before you can take your garment away.
  11. We take card payments, cheque, bank transfer or cash.
