Join The Southampton Sewing Hub CIC as a Director!

We have several vacancies for Director roles at The Southampton Sewing Hub, a growing Community Interest Company (CIC) based on Rose Road, near the Avenue and Lodge Road. If you’re passionate about sustainability, community engagement, and creative fashion, this could be the perfect opportunity for you!

About The Sewing Hub

The Sewing Hub is a vibrant, fully accessible community space offering sewing classes, alterations and bespoke design services. We also provide professional studio space for local designers and makers. We have lots of exciting plans coming up in the near future, and we are looking for the right people to work alongside us – perhaps you could be one of them?

What We’re Looking For:

We are seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our board of directors, to help guide the future of The Sewing Hub. You’ll work closely with our CEO and current directors to support our vision of fostering creativity, promoting sustainability, and delivering meaningful benefits to the people of Southampton.

What’s involved:

As a Director we would invite you to: 

  • Attend and contribute to bi-monthly board meetings (every 6-8 weeks, lasting 2 – 3 hours). 
  • Keep in touch with the CEO and other Directors via emails, Zoom meetings and telephone calls (approximately 1 hour per month). 
  • Help to make decisions about our operations. Relatively quick responses to emails/messages may be required occasionally. 
  • Optionally, volunteer at our events and activities. Not compulsory, but the more the merrier!

Skills and Experience:

We would be particularly keen to hear from you if you have expertise or interest in the following areas: 

  • Marketing and promotion 
  • HR Management/Employment Law
  • Fashion/‘Rag Trade’ knowledge 
  • Financial expertise e.g. pricing, budgeting, improving profit margins etc. 

If you’re passionate about sewing, creativity or community work and believe you can contribute to The Sewing Hub, we’d love to hear from you, even if your expertise is outside these areas. You will be supported by our CEO and current directors to make sure you get the most out of your time spent with us.
